Chapter 1: The Concept

Nestled among towering pine trees with breathtaking views of a mountain valley, the client's home evokes a sense of warmth and connection to nature. For the remodel of the powder bath, guest bath, and master bath, it was essential to honor this rugged, serene environment while seamlessly integrating with the existing remodeled design elements of the home.

The project required maintaining and, where necessary, matching the existing materials to ensure a cohesive flow between the bathrooms and the home's already remodeled living spaces. The challenge was to blend these elements naturally while introducing new materials that echoed the home's rustic yet refined aesthetic.

The powder bath before: gold textured wallpaper, a framed mirror, a two arm sconce and a dark marble counter with an undermount sink. — Before

The guest bath before: a tub and shower with a curtain, white tile with a dark green stripe, and gray floor tile. — Before

Chapter 2: The Plan

The master bath was reimagined as a luxurious retreat, thoughtfully designed to blend seamlessly with the home's earthy palette while elevating the natural aesthetic.

The existing tub, originally positioned within the bedroom, presented a unique challenge due to the radiant heated floors, limiting the ability to relocate plumbing without risking damage to the heating system. The solution was an innovative curved wall, open on both ends to allow light from the window to filter into the bathing area and create a graceful entry into the bathroom itself.

Primary bath plans, existing and new: a vanity either side of the shower, construction notes to remove the bench seat, widen the shower and make it a dual person shower, and the new floor raised flush with the top of the curb.

Guest bath plans, existing and new: the tub beside the toilet becomes a glass enclosed shower, with a double vanity on the long wall.

The Curved Wall

Behind the curved wall the tub sits on a floor raised 7 inches and finished in mosaic tile, with a step up on both sides in a coordinating wood plank.

Chapter 3: The Details

In the powder bath, the use of black slate, already present around the home's fireplace, was incorporated to create a cohesive visual connection between spaces. The dark tones of the slate were offset with copper accents, adding warmth and a sense of richness to the design. Live edge wood slabs were utilized to bring organic, sculptural elements into the space, enhancing the connection to the surrounding natural landscape.

Guest bath vanity sheet: a 3D view of the maple double vanity with a center tower, the vanity elevation, a cabinet schedule, and plank porcelain tile, Artisan Mist subway tile and soapstone samples.

Guest bath shower tile sheet: shower elevations with Ivory Cavalier tile in a horizontal brick set, an Artisan Mist accent stripe and niche, and the board wainscoting behind the toilet.

Powder bath plans, existing and new, with the vanity wall elevation: a vessel sink on a floating counter, an organic mirror between two sconces, and construction notes to remove the wallpaper and add a new vanity, fixtures, lighting, tile and paint.

Primary shower elevations: two shower heads either side of a center line with two niches, and the opposite wall with the window, tile laid out from center over the existing curb topped in solid surface.
