The BASEMENT
Built for a growing family, that likes to play and entertain. It also has a guest suite for extended family. A soffited ceiling carefully planned to look intentional instead of just a cover for ducting.

Chapter 1: The Concept
This basement remodel will attempt to blend seamlessly with the existing architecture of the home to give it a sense of cohesive intention. The wall texture, along with the style of trim and doors, will be carried through into the basement. To hide but not emphasize the ducting, an entire soffit system will be built to add a coffered element to the ceiling of the family room and will house accent lighting. A fireplace and entertainment center will be custom built to take advantage of the already existing basement cove area. A temperature-controlled wine cellar will be built into the underside of the stairwell taking advantage of the otherwise unusable space. The cellar will be paired with a wetbar containing a small refrigerator microwave and sink. The basement finish will contain a 5th bedroom, and a 3/4 bathroom. The design will be warm and inviting, with a touch of timeless classiness, built in such a way that it is durable, sustainable, and one-of-a-kind. It will be an immediate focal point and a gathering place for family and friends.

Chapter 2: The Plan
Every line of this plan works around something already in place: the ceiling height limits of the plumbing and HVAC, the round steel support posts, the furnace and water heater, the in-floor plumbing for the bathroom, the stairs and the sprinkler system valves.
Chapter 3: The Details
The finish list was short and specific: cork flooring, a knock-down wall texture, white six-panel doors with matching trim and baseboard, and herringbone tile in the bathroom.
The Guest Bath
Pietra Dune field tile runs behind the vanity and toilet, capped by an Angora herringbone mosaic edged in stainless Schluter and a pencil liner, with Poppy Seed paint above. Every tile is counted on the sheet, overage included.
